I was a friend and fellow journalism major at NMSU with Rickey. I was just contacted by another friend of his about his untimely death. While we lost contact after school, I will always cherish the laughs we shared together. He was one-of-a-kind!

Rick was a truly special guy our days at NMSU. Enjoyed our camaraderie and friendship. Rest in peace Mr. H

Out of nowhere you came to mind and I began searching for your name to try and find you and I came across your picture and an obituary. I'm deeply saddened and heartbroken to see that you passed away last year. My God! I got an opportunity to speak with you a year after dad passed away. We had a great talk as we've had in times past. In memory of my big brother Ricky Charles Howell, aka "Scout". It has been a year since he went to glory, but it seems like it was just yesterday. Just last night I turned on Sirius radio and tuned to 70's R&B music, and the were playing songs from one of your favs, Isaac Hayes "Hot Buttered Soul" lp and I had an immediate flashback to our basement at 2044 Leahy St, with Rick behind the bar spinning his jams listening to "Walk on By" and the Isley Brothers "Living for the love of you". Oh...

This is the Rick Howell I knew for 17 years. He was the smartest and the greatest man I knew. He affectionately called me Chell-Chell and I called him Rickster. My heart is heavy and my condolences go out to the family.
