GREENVILLE -- Rita H. Barhorst, beloved wife of Clarence Barhorst for 69 years; devoted mother of Kathleen (late Robert) Schaffer, the late Greg (Mary) Barhorst, Phil (Anne) Barhorst, Steve (Dana) Barhorst, Garry Barhorst, Susan (late Thomas) Klump; doting grandmother of 14, great-grandmother of 33, with one on the way; passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at her home, aged 90 years.
Preceded in death by her parents Joseph & Helen Caulfield: siblings Carolyn (James) Welsh; Patricia (Vincent) Caserta; Joan (Robert) Vogt; Thomas (Sondra) Caulfield and Jack (Sylvia) Caulfield: two nephews Joseph Caulfield and Daniel Caserta: niece Ann Caufield: in- laws Sister Julianna Barhorst, SC; Walter Barhorst; Harold Barhorst; Georgianna Barhorst.
Survived by sister- in- laws June Barhorst and Thelma Barhorst.
Rita retired from Greenville Dairy Queen after 24 years of service. She was also previously employed by Rikes in downtown Dayton, and Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney. She also spent 43 years dairy farming. She'll be remembered for her laugher, kindness and total devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Rita was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, and a participating member of the Altar Rosary Sodality. Rita was also past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the St. Gaspar Del Buffalo General Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. She was also a 4-H Advisor for the Buttons & Bows 4-H Club of Shelby County. She enjoyed going to Florida in the winter months.
Friends may call on the family on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2022 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Matt Feist, celebrant. There will be an hour visitation on Friday at the funeral home from 9:00 AM- 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at 2:30 PM, Friday at the Graceland Cemetery, Sidney, Ohio. If desired memorial contributions may be made to EverHeart Hospice or St. Mary's Church. Fond memories may be shared at www.zecharbailey.com for the Barhorst family.

Kathy~Our hearts go out to you, Aaron & family, Sarah & family, & Adam & family. Just one look at you and your family and you know what a great lady she had to be. She gave us you, a kind and giving person and the most well rounded knowledgeable nurse one could hope to meet. You and your family are the legacy she left to all, well done good and faithful servant.
