Rita Juliette Melancon Bourgeois

1924 - 2019

Rita Juliette Melancon Bourgeois, aged 94, died on Friday, November 15, 2019 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born on December 18, 1924, in Baton Rouge, she was the daughter of Beauregard Joseph and Hazel Patterson Melancon. Juliette married Truman Alexander "Alex" Bourgeois on June 13, 1946. They were married for 71 years. She was a loving wife and wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Juliette was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy in 1942. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and B. J. Melancon. Survivors include her three children, Becky Ann Bourgeois Bulger (Jim) of New Orleans, LA; Edward Scott Bourgeois (Connie) of Birmingham, AL; and Julie Marchand Bourgeois of St. Francisville, LA; three grandchildren, Rebecca Anne Bourgeois Gray (Bob) of Salt Lake City, UT; Edward Scott Bourgeois, Jr. of New Orleans, LA; Benjamin Conrad Bourgeois of Birmingham, AL; four grandchildren, Katherine Ann Bourgeois; Susannah Clare Gray, Corinne Scott Gray, and Jane Elizabeth Gray. The Bourgeois family would like to thank the staff at St. James for their care. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 19, 2019, 1:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph (401 Main St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802) with the Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park (4045 North St.). Services are under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home (825 Government Street). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Baton Rouge, LA.
