JACOBS, Rita F. (Waldon) - Of Flint, age 88, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Brian's House of Davison. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 609 East Fifth Avenue in Flint, Father Santiago Arockiyasamy officiating. Per Rita's wishes cremation will take place following the Mass. At a later date Rita's cremains will be buried next to her husband, Harold at Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Brian's House of Davison. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 1:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Rita will be at the church from 12 p.m. Saturday until the time of the Mass. Rita was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 24, 1921, the daughter of the late Earl and Edna Waldon, and was proud to share the same birthdate as her husband. Rita married Harold Jacobs on June 29, 1946 at St. Michael's in Flint and he preceded her in death on December 27, 2004. Rita was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Martin DePorres Guild at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She was a member of the Sugar Springs Association in Gladwin, Michigan; was a former Girl Scout Leader and belonged to the same Pinochle club for 55 years. Rita enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, watching the Detroit Tigers and camping. Her true joy was spending time with her family. Surviving are seven children, Kathleen Christle of Flint, Lawrence and wife Molly of Lapeer, Barbara and husband Richard Kerruish of Milford, Theresa Airgood of Flint, Thomas and wife Sandra of Naubinway, Michigan, Rita Jacobs of Flint and Rene' Jacobs of Burton; seven grandchildren, Patrick (Amy), Christa, Amy, Lauren, Michael, Meghan and Melissa; two great-grandchildren, Amber and Chelsie; brother, Robert and wife Anna Mary Waldon of Clawson; sister-in-law, Regina Waldon of Grand Rapids; several in-laws; several nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; two grandchildren, Daniel and Timothy Christle and brother, John Waldon. Your condolences may be shared with the family at swartzfuneralhomeinc.com
