Rita Michaels, 88, of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday at University Hospital. She had previously worked at Remington & Rand Company and then was a homemaker raising her family.

One summer when I was 13 or 14 years olds I stayed at my summer camp by myself; Rita invited me to dinner many times that summer because she was worried about my diet. Rita also used to take my mom shopping and out to eat because my mom didn't drive. They were good friends. I will miss her smile.

Rita was always good to me. Even though we were never actually related, she treated me with kindness & I was proud to be able to give her a grandson. I am glad he was able to get to know her & share with her his 2 daughters. She was a wonderful person & will always be in my thoughts.

Rita was a wonderful "summertime neighbor"..She always told us how much she loved being at her camp on the river. She would always bake and cook dinners for us and anyone else who stopped by to visit her. We will always remember her sense of humor and big smile..Even though we moved away, we were glad we got to talk to her recently. She will never be forgotten.
