A Pair of Gifts Left Behind
Robert Sutcliffe enjoyed the chaos of the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, where he worked as a broker for Harvey, Young & Yurman. He was awake and ready to go at 5 every morning. But he was not a hard- charging corporate type. At 39, he was a serene man, content with his life as it was.
He would call his wife, Margaret, from work with a teasing "Do you miss me?" that invariably made her laugh. His early morning hours were private time to be spent with his daughter, Kara Patricia, 3, his "little devil," visiting Dunkin' Donuts, Home Depot and his parents and grandmother, who live near the Sutcliffes' home in Huntington, N.Y.
"People have a hard time finding time in their lives," said Mr. Sutcliffe's sister-in- law Katherine Korz. "Bob never let his friendships or his relationship with his parents and grandmother slip. Everybody misses him. But no one regrets not having had enough time with him. They did."
On Sept. 11, Mr. Sutcliffe was at a meeting at Windows on the World. His father, Robert Sutcliffe Sr., learned later that he had made a habit of gathering uneaten lunches at work and distributing them to street people on his way home. "I never knew this until he died," the father said.
Margaret Sutcliffe is pregnant with twins, due in February. "Bob knew they were coming," Mrs. Korz said. "It's almost like a gift that was left behind."

Visited the site shortly afterwards, saw your name on that long list of lives lost. Although unknown to me you and your family remain in my thoughts on each anniversary. RIP Robert.

I’m a Sutcliffe here in the UK. I had an uncle Robert and my grandmother was called Margaret. I’ve read the story of Robert Sutcliffe, a most amazing man and although we’re not related and only share the same surname, I thought of you and your family when We visited Ground Zero in December 2019. You and your family are forever in our thoughts, God Bless you all.
