Woodfin Funeral Chapel - Murfreesboro Obituary

Robert Allman, age 101 of Murfreesboro passed away at Adams Place on Friday, September 21st, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Benton Allman and Etta Mae Miller Allman; his wife of 74 years, Mildred Stewart; brother, Benton Allman of Lewisburg, and sister, Thelma Epperson of California. He is survived by his children, Shirley Jean Thompson and Bobby Stewart Allman of Murfreesboro, and Judy F. Nixon and the late Clarence Hayden Nixon of Walnut Creek, CA; grandchildren, Nick and Jeff Nixon of CA, Theresa Long and Connie Sullins of Murfreesboro; great-grandchildren, Alex and Travis Nixon of CA, Cecily Sullins and Jeremy Mosley, Daphne Carroll, and Erin Long of Murfreesboro.

Robert was born in Woodbury on October 20th, 1916. He grew up in Chapel Hill and later moved to the Buchanan community. Robert and Mildred owned and farmed the “Sunny Acres Farm” on Manchester Pike for 62 years before moving to Murfreesboro in 1998. In addition to farming his own property, he worked for the public, including harvesting crops for others all over Murfreesboro. In the late 40’s, he rescued the Square from a snowstorm when he was asked to bring his tractor with loader to town to remove the snow because the city’s bulldozers could not move in the snow.

Robert was the oldest member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, located across from his farm. He will be remembered for many things, but his latest thrill was tandem skydiving at the Tullahoma Airport on his 100th birthday, breaking President George H. Bush’s record at age 93. Late in life, Robert also enjoyed travels to Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Ireland, and cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal.

Funeral services will be held at Woodfin Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 26th, 2018.Visitation with the family will be from 12 PM to 2 PM with chapel service beginning at 2 PM. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Dr. Murray Mathis will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Robert to the American Red Cross or charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the Adams Place staff for their love and care for Robert.
