Queen of Heaven Cemetery and Mortuary - Rowland Heights Obituary

Robert Joseph Alvarado went home to his eternal reward on August 20, 2023

Born in Managua, Nicaragua on January 18, 1963. As a toddler the family emigrated to SoCal. He became a proud citizen and lived in SoCal his whole life. He was an avid sports fan and loved all the Southern California teams: Lakers, L A Kings, and Raiders. Going to see the Dodgers meant stopping by his favorite taquito stand at Olvera Street before the game and getting his roasted peanuts at the game.

He was 6’4 and athletic and he played basketball throughout his school days. Receiving a school scholarship to attend Daniel Murphy High School in Los Angeles. He had a great sense of discipline and critical thinking honed by the Jesuits Priests there. He transferred to Los Altos High School where he had a few basketball scouts coming to games until a knee injury his junior year changed the dream of playing further.

He fulfilled another dream of becoming a United States Marine in Infantry Force Recon and received an honorable discharge. Coming home from boot camp, he would put his siblings through the same exercises he had done. He proudly wore his USMC hat and loved talking to veterans while he was out. Tall, dark, and handsome he was always a big hit with the ladies. He also was the oldest of four siblings and the first-born grandchild.

He had a deep sense of humor and loved to joke with people. He had many lifelong friends. He was an armored truck driver for many years. He would get his Class A driver’s license so our mother would not worry about his work and became a long-haul truck driver. He always reminded us of everything we had in our homes came via a truck.

He loved having deep conversations about many subjects and deeply enjoyed his family. During family get togethers you would find him having conversations with the family. He loved discussing world history and politics. His nieces and nephews looked up to him and knew they could get a straight answer from him.

He had an incredibly special relationship throughout the latter part of his life with beautiful Irma and were the best of friends. She was someone he counted on and loved dearly. She became part of our family.

When his diabetes progressed to eventually having dialysis it changed his life. His Christian faith giving him the courage and hope in all his struggles. He never gave up and was smiling until the end. He will be deeply missed by his brother and sisters and extended family.
