Chambers Funeral Homes - Cleveland Obituary

ROBERT B. JENSEN, aged 89, beloved husband of the late Shirlee (nee Singer); loving father of Jeffrey R. (deceased), James G. (Paulette), Jack F. and Joel J. (Laura); proud grandfather of Julie, John R. James, Madeline and Dean; brother of Richard and Marcia Peltz (Don, deceased); uncle and great-uncle of many. U.S. Army veteran. Passed away peacefully at home January 27, 2021.

Bob was born and raised on the south side of Cleveland where he graduated from South High School and went on to complete his college studies with a Bachelors degree from The Ohio State University. He worked as a laborer in various jobs from a very young age which became the catalyst for his entrepreneurial passion. After graduating from college, he enlisted and served domestically in the US Army which he attested to the experience being “the best training in his life.” He met the love of his life, Shirlee, as a result of a double date and they married at St. Christopher’s church in 1954.

Bob’s formal business career started in Pharmaceutical sales in which his success eventually led to him to embracing the challenge and responsibility of being a self-employed financial services professional. His downtown Cleveland based career spanned over 40 years with his work ethic and efforts touching countless amounts of lives and families. He achieved numerous company and industry accolades and still is respected by many who were exposed to him. The philosophy of care he created for his friends and clients is still in place and thriving today.

Bob met many additional friends and colleagues through his 1984 membership at the Cleveland Athletic Club where countless miles were run on its track, then backed up with precedent setting meters on the clubs rowing machine. That same passion transitioned to his cherished role as a husband and father where the pride in his four sons was shown in various ways.

Bob was also blessed with the opportunity to travel internationally with Shirlee to experience, firsthand, the wonders of the world that his appetite for history and reading had taught him. His avid fitness regimen, love of sports, reading and home maintenance occupied his retirement years.

He maintained consistent phone contact with his closest long standing client relationships relishing in the opportunity to provide sage advice. Many additional words can be written to encompass Bob’s life on this earth. Those words are best translated into action by the ones who knew him, to continue, as he would have wanted, making their impact in their personal and professional lives.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet for his Funeral Mass, Wednesday, February 10th, at St. Christopher Church at 20141 Detroit Rd., Rocky River) at 12:30 p.m. (livestreamed at https://boxcast.tv/view/robert-jensen-prnfskiquj532myv2bur). Private burial Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory to WVIZ/PBS Ideastream at https://be.ideastream.org/donate/tribute.html would be appreciated.

Not sure what to say?

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Thank you, Bob, for inviting me to your home on a couple of occasions. Your interest in getting to know me is something that will stay with me forever. Thank you for making me feel welcome in the family. I immensely enjoyed my brief time with you. How I wish I knew you sooner and longer.

Beautiful send-off at St. Chris today. All of you “children” and grandkids helped make it a wonderful celebration of his life. What a proud legacy! Be well, stay healthy and know you’re in the prayers of a big community.

Joel,
What a beautiful mass you had for your dad. I know that he is proud of all his family and especially of his grandchildren and you for your participation.
We have happy memories of your dad and his wonderful way of relating to his clients. We know that your father will be missed.
You have our condolences.

Joel, Our sympathy goes out to you and your family. There is so much we could say about your father. When we first met him in his office downtown in 1987, Sharon and I thought "What did we get ourselves into?" That soon changed after we talked with your dad. He took a personal interest in us and wanted to make sure that we both knew the details and importance of planning for the future. I can remember him calling us on a Saturday night saying that he was thinking about us.

He...

Sorry to hear of Bob's passing, you have our deepest sympathy.

Joel, we are so sorry to hear about your Dad. Our sympathies are with you and your family.

We were very fortunate to have Mr. and Mrs. Jensen as neighbors for many years - they were both wonderful role models for us because they had such a beautiful home and the loveliest flowers in town! They always shared a smile, a wave or a friendly hello. Over these last several years I always kept an eye out for Mr. Jensen so that I could meet up with him on his walks and share a few minutes of conversation and smiles. He was always so polite and happy to see me - and he always asked about...

I knew Bob a whole year through the Cleveland Athletic Club before I even met Joel. We each left work a little early to get to CAC ahead of the crowd. We developed a friendship starting with that shared interest. He offered encouragement, advice and sometimes disdain for my torn work out clothes. Those early years were so special and fun. I will miss our book conversations & happy hours by the fireplace.
