Robert H. Badgley, 94 years old of Bad Axe, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 with his family by his side. Bob was born on May 6, 1931 to the late Harvey and Nettie (Purdue) Badgley in the family home in Huron Township. Bob graduated from Shephard country school and chose to not attend high school, but instead opted to stay home and help run the family farm with his father. He later worked with his brother Clayton who owned the ST&H Oil Company of Kinde until he was drafted to serve in the Korean Conflict. He served in Germany until his return back home. In 1954 he and his soon to be wife Betty Overton purchased the Bad Axe Marble and Granite works. He and Betty were married on January 22, 1955 and celebrated 70 years of marriage this past January. Bob and Betty operated their business for 40 years before his retirement.
Bob was a self –taught stone carver and by the time he retired, he could carve any style of lettering, carving and floral decoration.
Bob was the father of 4 children, and was always proud of their accomplishments in their lives. He also became quite an accomplished wood worker and made many beautiful intricate wood pieces.
Bob is survived by his wife Betty; children Karen Sue, David Robert, Judith Ann, Laura Jean (Patrick) O’Brien; grandchildren Betsie Olson, Samantha Olson, Edward (Lacey) O’Brien, Jeffery O’Brien & Sarah Parks; great-grandchildren Audrey Parks, Theodore Parks and Livian Olson.
Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother Clayton and Betty (Toner) Badgley, and his sister Betty Ignash.
