James 'Jim' Courtland Sturgeon
Evansville, Ind.
James "Jim" Courtland Sturgeon, 97, of Evansville, passed away Monday, February 20, 2012, at VNA Charlier Hospice Center. He was born April 24, 1914, in Beech Grove, Ky.
He was a 64 year member of the Sheet Metal Local 20 Union and retired from George Koch and Sons in 1978. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of St. Lucas United Church of Christ. He loved to work in his yard and plant a garden, which he did until the spring of 2011. Jim still drove a car and would go to the Carousel Restaurant and Hardee's to visit with his friends and shopping at Walmart.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Julia "Judy" Houghland Sturgeon, on January 26, 1994; four brothers; and one sister.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Emma Hood (James); grandchildren, Amy Turnpough (Scott), Jim Hood (Kristin) and Karen Myers (Toby); six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2012, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Lynn Martin, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jim was a true gentleman, friend, and neighbor. I very much enjoyed the time when I was around him. He will be missed by the gang at Hardees's as well as all that knew him. He spoke often and proudly of his family and he never seemed to have a bad day. Truly a great guy.
