Robert Martin Barker

 

BARKER, Robert Martin – Of Goodrich, age 87, died Friday, October 26, 2018 at The Oaks of Woodfield.

 

Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.

 

Cremation will take place after the service.

 

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Old Newsboys or charity of one’s choice.

 

Visitation 1 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

 

Robert was born in Black Rock, Arkansas on September 1, 1931, the son of the late William and Helen (nee Hamilton) Barker.

 

On December 16, 1950 he married Eleanor J. Youmans.

 

Robert’s family meant everything to him.

 

He was a passionate Euchre player, enjoyed reading many different newspaper subscriptions.

 

Mr. Barker was employed by Buick Motor Division for 30 years.

 

Surviving are wife, Eleanor;

 

Children, Sherry (Bill Mason) Murphy,

Denise (Russell) Irvan,

Robert (Sherry) Barker,

William Barker and

Carol (Douglas) Shelley;

 

8 grandchildren;

many great-grandchildren;

many great-great-grandchildren;

 

siblings, Herb and Bill Barker and Jean Adams.

 

He was preceded in death by his second mom, Sylvia Harmon; sisters, Jodie and Coy (Richard) Smith; grandson, William; special cousins, Ann Kohan and Leon Barker; uncle, Virgil (Belas) Barker.
