Not sure what to say?

I had the great experience of being one of Mr. Bartel's students at Westmont College from 1981-1983. He went out of his way to help me with my education. One particular time in the Spring of 1981, I was trying to figure out
how to raise enough money to go on the Summer Institute of Economics & Management Europe Trip. I told him
that I would not be able to go, as I could not afford the $3k cost. He said he would figure it out, and that I was
going on the trip!! That course (6...

I am very sad to learn of "Mr. Bartel's" passing. I thought of him today, and found it mentioned on Sarah's FB page.

He indeed had a profound impact on my life. I arrived at Westmont College in the fall of 1982 and promptly fell in love with Economics, primarily because of his Introduction to Macro Economics class. I was a sophomore transfer, a small town farm kid from rural Fresno county, and Bob took an interest in me because that is near where his family originated and because...

Mr Bartel was a great teacher, friend and adviser to me while I was a student at Wheaton. He was instrumental in helping me to mature in my studies and to become a successful teacher myself. I was saddened to learn of his passing, as he will be missed by his family and many friends. I was blessed to have his wisdom and counsel in my life. I am grateful that he was also a friend to my spouse , Alan, on the sidelines of many athletic events at the college. I hope that all the family is...

Robert was a wonderful, warm and giving person who really cared about all the people he touched. A true humanist and a veritable intellectual. We are at a loss with his passing. Our deepest condolences to the whole family.

Sorry for the loss of Bob, a great husband, father, grandfather, teacher and administrator. We first met Bob (and Shirley) when then were Hudson House hosts for InterVarsity in Nyack, NY, and we were attending some Young Life retreats in the early '60s. We were colleagues in the Development Office at Wheaton in the late '70s, and I got to work with "super-volunteer" Sarah for years at Outreach before retiring. Comfort and blessings expressed for the entire family.

Loving, kind, generous and giving. I've known the Bartel family for almost 40 years and from the first was struck by the generosity and kindness of both Bob and Shirley whether they were opening their home in Wheaton to a bunch of freshman who needed a place to hangout or to the countless students that benefited from his tutelage and guidance. He will be missed, but he leaves a great legacy to the world in his children and grandchildren. May God continue to bless you all!

Offering our deepest condolences during this difficult time.
