Robert Barton Obituary

Robert J. "Bob" 77 of Midwest City, died October 24, 2009. He was born January 4, 1932 in Chickasha, OK, to Bettye (McMurray) Barton and Emmette C. Barton. He served our country in the U.S. Navy, were his service started by attending the Oklahoma Military Academy at Claremore. He graduated in 1950 from Chickasha High School and completed his military service in 1953. His early love for cars started by working in his fathers' automotive shop in Chickasha. His true calling came when he was hired to teach auto mechanics at Southeast Automotive in OKC, and in 1966 moved to Midwest City and started his teaching career at the Mid-Del Vo-Tech, were he taught auto mechanics until his retirement in 1990. While teaching he also obtained his Bachelor of Science in Trade and Industrial Education from Oklahoma State University in 1975. He was an ASC certified mechanic. While teaching he served as an advisor to several local dealerships and to the General Motors Plant. Bob was more than a teacher we was a mentor and true friend. Through his teachings he established many life long relationships with his students and colleagues. After retirement he became a Realtor and was awarded the "Rookie of the Year Award" in 1994 by the Mid-Del Moore Association of Realtors. He was the owner of House of Realty, Inc., until he retired in 2004. His favorite pastimes were attending OU football games, fishing, going to South Texas and Mexico. He truly loved the sandy beaches, the ocean, cruising Lake Texoma and fishing all night long. His prize possessions were his dogs and his many cars. The family would like to thank Care Plus for their services and Hazel 1 and 2 for their love, and care.Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Shirley Goetsch-Barton, sisters Patsy Barton and Bette Willis, brothers Maurice and Bill Barton. He is survived by his dogs Sadie and Shoelace, daughter Pam Barton-Stober, husband Doug Stober and granddaughter Malayna Stober of Midwest City, OK, son Steve Tuel and wife Cheryl of Big Sandy, TX, daughter Sandi Crosley of Del City, daughter Cindi Barton-Roehrick and husband Dawayne of Chickasha and other extended family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mid-Del Moore Association of Realtors Education Fund (MDMAR), which was established in honor of his late wife, 1212 S. Air Depot, Suite 35, Midwest City, OK 73110. Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Eisenhour Southeast Chapel in Del City. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

We are sorry to lose Bob but we have many happy memories of our days at Chickasha High School. Bob always had a good sense of humor which we will miss.

Bob and I enjoyed seeing each other at our highschool class reunions over the years. We go back to the time when we were playmates as kids 7 or 8 years old. Many fond memories. My condolences to his family.
