Oris P. Jones Funeral Establishment - South Hill Obituary

Robert George Baskerville, Sr., also known to family and friends as “Buck,” departed this life on February 19, 2021 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA.  The son of the late Samuel and Mary Colleen Logan Baskerville, Robert was born on October 18, 1948. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Susie Sykes, Louise Baskerville and Kasterian Tisdale; and four brothers, Samuel Lee, James Otis, John Henry “Boo Jack” and Joseph Baskerville.

At an early age, Robert was baptized and joined Free Union R.Z.U.A. Church. He also attended East End High School, South Hill, VA, graduating in June 1969. He joined the United States Army on September 4, 1970 and served in the Vietnam War.  Buck was employed by USCO, Sanford Garage (later owned by Jack Felt) as a mechanic.  He retired in October 2010 from Pepsi Cola Company, where he had worked as a mechanic for 23 years.

Buck was a devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather. He also was a hardworking and dependable provider. He loved and was truly there for his family. He was a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan and before his health started to decline, he enjoyed fishing, watching football, Nascar and westerns and playing his guitar for the Mighty Southerneers of Lawrenceville.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 48 years, Edna; three children: Robert Baskerville, Jr. (Lakeshia Tinsley) of Petersburg; Danielle Baskerville and Miracle Touhey of Bracey; four grandchildren: Nile Atwater, Nijhil Baskerville, Elijah Touhey and Serenity Baskerville; six sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law: Thelma Baskerville, Marion Shaw, Celeste Pearson, Viola Slade (James), Barbara Richardson (George) and Phyllis Hardy (Clinton); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, to include two devoted friends, Roy Jones and Angela Alston.  He will be missed by the many who knew him.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1 pm, Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Crestview Memorial Park, Highway One North, La Crosse, VA with Rev. Cornelius A. Ogburn, eulogizing.  Viewing will be held 1-5 pm, Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Oris P. Jones Funeral Establishment. All attendees must follow CDC guidelines and wear a face covering over the nose and mouth and practice social distancing during both the viewing and graveside service.

**The service will be live-streamed during the service time and available to view after the service on this site.
