GREENSBORO MR. ROBERT "Bob" Esler Berthold, 82, of Greensboro departed from this life on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at Whitestone Masonic and Eastern Star Home, after a longtime illness.A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at St. Paul Presbyterian Church, 2300 Old Chapman St., in Greensboro, with Rev. Dr. Jay Lambeth officiating. The family will receive friends at the church, following the memorial service.Born May 29, 1932, in Braddock, PA, to the late Esler Melvin Berthold and Ruth Jackson Berthold, Bob was a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church. He graduated Salutatorian of his high school class in Mayville, NY and then graduated from Syracuse University. Bob was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Taiwan. He worked as an Insurance Underwriter with Illinois Mutual and later Jefferson Pilot, which is now Lincoln Financial. Bob enjoyed baseball, traveling, and holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Turner.Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Shirley Stuber Berthold of the home; children, Robert Esler Berthold, Jr. of Chapel Hill, Jeffrey Berthold of High Point, and daughter, Karen Ballard and her husband Willis Dow of High Point; and grandson, Jamison Berthold and his wife Emily of Durham.
