William J. Burke & Sons / Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY – Robert D. “Bob” Eagan, 81, passed away Thursday, Aug.  24, 2017, with his family and his dog "Trouble" by his side at his home here.  Bob died after a long illness fighting various forms of cancer.  He was born in Albany, NY, Aug.  16, 1936.

Bob Eagan was a feisty, resilient and very tough man who over his lifetime said he feared nothing, absolutely nothing, except for one thing.  His one fear was that he might lose his hair from all the medications he had to take over the last five years. When he was called Aug.  24, he still had all his hair.

Bob grew up in North Albany, where he said it was so tough that criminals wouldn't go there.  He was most proud of his North Albany heritage.

Bob worked 31 years for Niagara Mohawk, NMP (NYSE), with headquarters in Syracuse, NY, retiring in 1997.  He was a traveling operator who put equipment into service in Albany, Saratoga Springs and Glens Falls. He was known to be a very hard worker, dedicated to Niagara Mohawk (now National Grid).

Bob was also known to be a "quiet joker."  He liked to pretend that all work assignments were beneath him and would say upon hearing the assignment “Are these the hands of a working man?"

Friends who knew Bob well knew that if he was ever upset or angry, it would take five minutes for him to forget it.  He was also known as the guy who would do anything to help his friends and associates.

Bob was in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1956.  He spent time in Korea, Germany and Coco Beach, FL. He graduated from Phillip Schuyler. He also was an avid fisherman, hunter and horse player, who loved Saratoga Race Course and many other U.S. tracks.

Bob met his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Perosi while skiing in Vermont.  Daughter Megan Elizabeth is deceased.

Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Eagan of 47 years, son Michael Joseph Eagan, sister Mary C. Kelly and many nieces and nephews.

Bob's father was John Joseph (Joe) Eagan and his mother was Margaret Mary Eagan.

The family wishes to acknowledge the assistance of Community Hospice.  Donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (220 E. 42nd St., New York, NY 10017).

Relatives and friends may call from 4pm to 7pm Monday, Aug. 28, 2017 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs 584-5373.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1pm Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017 at the historic Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
