Toale Brothers Funeral Home & Crematory - Ewing Chapel Chapel - Venice Obituary

Robert (Bob) DeBoer of Nokomis, FL passed away on April 17, 2018.  Bob was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Clarence and Tena DeBoer on November 30, 1944.
He grew up in a boisterous family with three sisters and one brother whom he regularly teased. Throughout the last ten years, getting together with his sisters, brother, and in-laws was a yearly highlight. Once together, the laughter was contagious; the stories were endless.

He is survived by his sister Betsy (Boyd) Pastoor of Satellite Beach; brother Clare (Shirley) DeBoer of Paw Paw; sisters Helen (Dave) VanDam of Kalamazoo; and Mary (John) Kleyn of Holland.

Bob graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School, attended Calvin College and earned his law degree from the University of Miami. In 1973 he
moved to Venice, Florida, where he began practicing law.

Bob, a Florida board certified real estate lawyer, built a highly successful practice during his career as a named partner with the law firm of Kanetsky, Moore & DeBoer. He earned the prestigious AV rating, the highest attorney rating, voted by his peers. He served on various committees and boards as his pragmatic and sage advice was greatly valued.

Bob was involved with the Florida Bar Grievance Committee, was a founding member of the Bank of Venice, and spent many years on the Venice Hospital Board. A key person assisting Bob in his professional success, was his legal assistant, Chris Verchot whom he worked with for over forty years.

Always looking for a laugh, Bob's pranks continued through adulthood with many of his friends and family members falling victim to his outlandish sense of humor. When a prank was particularly funny, the laughter would start with the shaking of his belly and move up until it was an all-out laugh. For the really good ones – this could go on for weeks.

He is survived by his children Heather DeBoer, Tara (Brad) Holwerda and grandchildren Austyn and Brock. Bob found great delight in his grandchildren and especially in their sporting activities. Rocket football was one of his favorites. He literally stood through the entire game and followed the play up and down the field. Also, surviving Robert is his wife and friend since kindergarten Janet (Brussee) DeBoer. Last but not least, Bob was survived by his loyal dog Radar, who brought him joy.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, May 19th at 10:00am, at Venice Presbyterian Church, 825 The Rialto, Venice, FL  34285 with a light luncheon to follow at 1851 Mission Valley Country Club, Nokomis, FL  34275.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Loveland Center at 157 South Havana Rd. Venice, 34292 or Sarasota County Special Olympics at P.O. Box 2112, Venice, FL 34284. Please note memorial donation
