HAMPTON - Robert Stuart Brizendine, 74, died Monday, November 25, 2013. A native of Roanoke, he had been a Hampton resident since 2006. He served in the US Coast Guard as an instructor, retiring in 1978 after 23 years of service. He then went to work as Supervisor of Maintenance, first at Eastern State Hospital and then for the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. He enjoyed fishing. Preceded in death by his wife, Claudette Brizendine; survivors include three daughters, Roberta Greenslade and her husband, Charles, Barbara Huguley and her husband, James, and Joanna Murphy and her husband, John; a son, Robert Brizendine and his wife, Tina; a sister, Joyce Headford; a brother, Carlyle Brizendine and his wife, Mildred; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM-1:00PM Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions. A graveside service with full Coast Guard honors will be conducted at 2:00 Tuesday at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. State Veterans' Cemetery.

My condolences to Bob's family. I have known Bob for many years when I worked at Eastern State Hospital. Bob did many good things for the maintenance Department there. He was a honest man and all that knew him liked him. May he rest in peace.
