Not sure what to say?

My sympathies to the family of my dear third year architecture professor. Mr Bruhns made architecture musical, humorous and intriguing. His comments resonate in my mind to this day. Rest in peace great man.

Dear Robert,

The beauty of your spirit, vitality for life, pursuit of excellence, euphoria for music, and love for everyone has been a joy for all of us to remember.
Oh, how we miss our dear friend.
How good the Lord is to all who are struggling. He brings joy in the morning, and stands beside each of us who call on His name.
He has promised His righteousness so we may be together throughout eternity.

Be comforted, Robert. Your friendship...

Oh Sally, I know your heart is broken... I just got your message and I just tried to phone you... I will try again later. Tomorrow John and I leave for Belgium in case we don't connect. Sending love your way

Grieved to read about Robert's passing. Back in the nineties I attended church with Robert along with a large and active young adult group. Robert and I played guitar with Jeff Burmeister. We were the three amigos and really enjoyed leading spontaneous singalongs for the group. Robert was our song leader and quite talented, but more importantly Robert was my friend. I also recall joining Robert on bike rides around Atlanta since we share many of the same hobbies. He was a special and unique...

So sorry to hear this sad news.
Rob was a one of a kind. I enjoyed knowing him at GT and then later working together in the profession. He was a kind and gentle soul, and a teacher at heart. I'll always remember his guitar playing and the bountiful tomato harvests being brought into the office.

My sincere condolences to the family of Mr Bruhns. He was the coolest yet very effective architecture professor for myself and classmates during our time at Tuskegee University. His quotes still ring strong in my mind some 25 years later. This is a great loss for architecture.

I recall when I asked him why he had a music box mechanism on his desk, he picked it up and let it play in mid air, and as it played, he set in on his desk and it immediately went from tinny and quiet to resonant and loud. He said like this, people need a sound board.

with a single Black warrior pencil, and some trash paper, new, old ,contrasted worlds would reveal themselves in real time. Robert was a gentle giant, quiet waters run deep, too many memories, thanks Robert for being...

Professor Bruhns was such a genuine soul. He had this effortless way of calming an architecture student at the height of their frustration. I was one of many he did that for. On top of that, he was always down for the cause. He was indescribably supportive while my classmates and I started Clemson's Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects. He will truly be missed.

It was an absolute pleasure to share Lee Hall with Professor Bruhns during my time at Clemson. I first got to know Professor Bruhns during my sophomore year, while taking his studio class. His fervent passion for all things architecture coupled with an incredible ability to teach through the motions of pencil on paper made him, without a doubt, my favorite professor at Clemson. One of my fondest memories of Professor Bruhns was during a Friday studio review. My classmates and I were sitting...
