Dr. Robert C. Burroughs Jr."Bob"Dr. Robert Burroughs, 79, of Charlotte, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on July 15, 2009 at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on February 19, 1930 in Wadesboro, NC. He was the eldest son of the late Robert C. Burroughs Sr. and Margaret Grace Penny Burroughs.Dr. Burroughs is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anna Lee, his son Chet and wife Jean, of Cary, NC, and his daughter, Leigh Ann Showalter and husband, Milton, of Radford, VA, and six grandchildren, Mary Burroughs, Michael Burroughs, Matthew Burroughs, Mason Burroughs, of Cary, NC, and Alexandria Showalter, and Sarah Catherine Showalter, of Radford, VA.He is also survived by his brothers, Rev. Joseph P. Burroughs of Sykesville, MD., M. Winston Burroughs and wife Martha Lou, of Southern Pines, NC, and sister, Mary Alice Foster, and husband Henry of Charlotte, and numerous nieces and nephews.Dr. Burroughs graduated from Wadesboro High School in 1947, graduated from Davidson College in 1951, and received his D.D.S. from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery at the University of Maryland in 1955. He served as a Captain in the US Army Dental Corps at Ft. Bragg, NC from 1955-57. He married Anna Lee Dellinger of York, PA in 1956. They moved to Charlotte in 1957. He practiced family dentistry in Charlotte for 43 years. He was an active member of Myers Park Baptist Church for 52 years and a member of the 5th Dimension Sunday School Class.Bob was known for his warm, friendly smile, kind hearted and gentle nature by his family, friends and patients. His colleagues valued his character, integrity, and loyal friendship. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Rd. The family will greet friends in the Heaton Hall foyer following the memorial service.The family would like to thank the extraordinary staff at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House who surrounded him with loving care during this difficult time.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078 and Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Rd.
