Robert D. CARMAN

I just read of Bob's passing today. In 2005, I conducted detailed interviews with Bob and his life at MCSS from 1977 to 1981 and transcribed them. He did not give a date of release but they are available to anyone. He read and edited every paragraph before approving the transcript.

Bob was for me the model of what public service should be and he taught me so much about the role of those who give advice to Ministers and Premiers. Everything he did was guided by what he felt was in the public interest. Whether he was patiently listening to your problem, supporting you when you needed it, or gently pointing you in a different direction, you always knew he wanted you to succeed. I will always remember with great fondness his unfailing support of those of us in the late 70s...

I was very sad to hear that Bob had passed away. He was such a powerful role model for many of us who knew him in the Ontario Public Service. Despite his many accomplishments, he always remained a humble person who could connect with people in all levels of an organization. We shared a common interest in forestry and there are so many of us in the forestry community who will miss him. His memories and his forests will live on. My condolences to Bev and family.

I am sad to read of Bob's passing. He was a wonderful friend and mentor to me early in my career. My husband, Tom Campbell and Bob were colleagues over many years and respected each other deeply. He was a gentle man man of true integrity and always chose the high road, sometimes in exceptionally challenging circumstances.
