I was introduced to Bob Carter in the 80's by Jean and Bob, after Jean had experienced a harrowing sailboat ride across the Straits of Juan de Fuca to Canada in horrific weather with Bob Carter. Despite this, she later sailed with Pete, my husband, and I, in our homebuilt sailboat. I can only say that Bob Carter must have painted a wondrous picture to Jean of the glories of high winds, high seas, and the glorious need of a tavern after such a crossing, to have Jean available to sail later...

Bob, Vic Broz and I met in 1978 at the Town Tavern in Port Townsend. We have been friends since then and have shared many life stories. I am sorry that I did not have the chance to share with Bob my experiences of moving into a Quaker retirement community here in Sandy Spring MD. I call Bob a "global citizen" as he has family and friends all over the world. We all will miss him.
