Not sure what to say?

My sincere condolences to his family. Although I never had the pleasure of clerking for Judge Chapman or appearing in his court, I admired (albeit from afar) his sound judgment and clever wit. I was present when he spoke to me and the other members of the University of South Carolina Law Review about the ten things that had most changed the practice of law during his career. I remember being surprised that his number one choice was air conditioning. He explained that air conditioning had...

Many folks don't know this, but Judge Chapman was a loyal supporter of the USC NROTC unit and alumni association. He played for a number of years in the annual golf tournament (handicap was 2). Several years ago, he was honored as "Admiral of the Year" by the NROTC alumni association. He gave a great talk regarding his Naval Career. Everyone at the USC NROTC will miss him.

I had the great privilege of clerking for Judge Chapman in 1987-88. What a great man! My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Cal Watson

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

My deepest sympathies to your family. I had the privilege of clerking for Judge Chapman on the Fourth Circuit in 1989. He was patient and kind, with a great sense of humor. That year led to a legal career with the federal judiciary that I had never imagined, as I remain a Career Law Clerk. About three years ago, I had the pleasure of speaking to Judge Chapman by phone, and thoroughly enjoyed catching up on remembrances from times gone by. I am sorry I am unable to attend the services.

My Condolences to the Family. During this time of sorrow, may you find peace and comfort in this sure promise found at John 6:40.

MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH THE FAMILY.

Offering our deepest sympathies during this time.
