Mr. Robert “Bob” A. Charland, 60, of Newport,Vt ,beloved husband of Pat, passed away suddenly in Newport on Monday July 9, 2007. He was born the son of Bernard and Madeline (Judd) Charland on July 7, 1947 in Newport,Vt. Bob formerly worked for the Department of Liquor Control including being manager of the local store. He and his wife Pat were very interested in antiques and have owned their own store (Somebody’s Attic) on Main Street in Newport for over thirteen years. He enjoyed cooking, entertaining, and caregiving. He and his wife Pat took in and mentored many many young people to help them get on life’s right path. He also derived great pleasure from his pets, and growing and nurturing his flower gardens. Bob was a member of the Newport Elks Club #2155, Newport Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 21, Vermont J.C.I. Senate, and the Reparative Board of Orleans County Court System. Bob married Patricia Lord in 1965 who survives him. He is also survived by a brother Allen Charland and his wife Diane of Burlington along with several Aunts, Uncles, Couisns, nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Thursday July 12, 2007 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport . An Elks service will be held at the funeral home at 7:30 P.M. on Thursday. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newport on Friday July 13, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Philip Branon officiating. Intement will follow in St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery in Derby Line. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to the Northeast Kingdom Independent Made Easy c/o Jen Sloan, 1448 Twin Bridge Road, Derby Line,Vt 05830.
