DOHERTY FUNERAL SERVICE Obituary

An amazing man, a devoted father, a doting grand-father, a kind neighbor, a diligent worker, an avid sports fan, a worthy friend. Robert J. D’Ambrosio was all that and more when he passed away on October 01, 2017, after a brief illness.

Bob was the son of Maurice and Sylvia D’Ambrosio, first generation Americans whose families immigrated from Italy and Portugal.

Bob was a Marine Veteran, who served his country during the Korean Conflict. He would often understate his participation by saying a stateside supply clerk didn’t fight much but his typing skills were exemplary.

After his military service he returned back to Massachusetts with his young family. Bob and Carol, being Catholic and all, had four children in five years Sam, Debby, Cindy and Bobby in that order. All the girls were Daddy’s girls, and adored their father. The deaths of his second wife Carol in 1992 and Sam, his first born in 2013 left a permanent sadness in his heart. The birth of his grandson’s Erick, Jason, Devin and Samuel along with Noah, his great-grandson, brought comfort to him knowing his legacy would live long and be strong.

To sum up Bob’s life and legacy one word comes to mind, devoted.  When you’re devoted to a cause, you work to achieve its goals. When you’re devoted to a person, you place their needs above your own. Yeah, Bob was all that and more.

Visiting hours will be held for Bob, in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, Sunday October 8, 2017, 1-4pm.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Robert's memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital,  262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.

Not sure what to say?

I always thought of Bob (Cindy's dad) as a dashing debonair gentleman, worthy of the beautiful and loving Carol who adopted the entire D'ambrosio clan as her own. Carol has been waiting to be reuited with her true love.
Bob was a hardworking man, and a devoted dad to his kids and grandkids. His warm loving legacy will live on..... The video collage is a wonderful tribute.

We will all miss you Uncle Bob, so sad to hear about your passing. Love,
Suzanne

Dad,
I'm so sorry I never made it back home. Nobody but you and I know how many times we talk and tried to make it happen. Please find it in your heart to forgive me. I'm so sorry...

Forever heartbroken your son Bobby.

Bob D, a great man, fun to be around, always a smile on your face and a good card player. You will be missed at our monthly card game but never forgotten. Your friend, Larry T

No one knows the pain of being the lesser of a man, until you try to stand in the shadow of a man that light passes right through, {My Father} that has been my life.. Trying to stand in the shadow of my father and knowing that I will never become the man that he is, And has always been. I have respected this man my whole life and I have strived the whole time to please him. To be able to stand in front of him with Pride. My wife Zizhu Liao D'Ambrosio (Lucy) brought me very close with my...

Since I met you, you always found a way to bring a smile to my face. You were always positive, helpful, caring, happy, and nothing ever brought you down. You will truly be missed by me. You'll always be in my thoughts and prayers, along with the rest of the family. Til we meet again ❤

I met Bob 8 years ago at Powell. A friendly smile I got at a new job.I've admired the gentleman he was. I'll miss him more than words can explain. I'm truly heartbroken. Heaven has gained yet another angel. Thank you Bob for your friendship. I promise to listen to "Men from Maine" and think of you.
