Not sure what to say?

When I began my journalism studies at KU in the late 1970s, I had a head start on many of my peers – not because of any innate brilliance on my part, but because Robert Dillon had prepared me so well. He was an outstanding teacher and a kind mentor. RIP, Mr. Dillon.

He was the best teacher I had at SME and will be sorely missed!

Best teacher I ever had. In high school, my only interest was sports...when he taught me to organizing my thoughts. Thank you, Mr. Dillon. (I'm sure neither of us ever thought I would go on to be an attorney.)

He is, to this day, the best teacher I've ever had: http://pvpost.com/2012/11/08/in-memoriam-bob-dillon-sm-east-13613

You wish your heroes could live forever. And when they don't, your heart breaks because they won't ever be around again.

He was my Journalism teacher. He was a mentor and a role model and simply amazing. Thank you for everything, Mr. Dillon. You have no idea the effect you had on me, not just as a journalist, but as a young man struggling to figure himself out. Rest now. I will never forget you.

is the Facebook group for Bob that Steve Bergman mentioned below. A big thanks to Kim and Linda Krebs for putting it together. The messages are a testament to how Bob had a huge impact on his students and collegues.

The way college buddies stuck together, the Hearts trophy, the flowers from San Francisco during visits, many travels with Gary...may you keep your own special memories of Bob alive: "You can't take that away from me" (an old song title).

There is a "group" on Facebook called "Thank You Mr. Robert Dillon" that includes memories and warm wishes from approximately 200 of his former students. This is something that anyone who wants to know about Bob's incredible legacy at Shawnee Mission East and how much we his former students loved and admired him should definitely check out. Perhaps someone more technologically adept than I could post a link to it here.

My sympathy to Bob's family. He was an excellent teacher at SMEast. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
