Robert J. Donovan

Groton - Robert J. Donovan, 74, of Groton, died on Jan. 11, 2014, at Newfield House in Plymouth, surrounded by his family.

Born in Willimantic, on May 22, 1939, the son of the late James Michael and Alice Leona (Maloney) Donovan.

He taught history at Ledyard High School and was the school's assistant principal, known affectionately as "Mr. D", retiring in 1995.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, at Sacred Heart Church, 56 Sacred Heart Drive, Groton. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Montville. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London.
