DORSEY, ROBERT EDWARD SR. (AGE 89) OF OXON HILL, MD
Robert E. Dorsey, Sr., of Oxon Hill, Maryland quietly departed this life for one eternal at the Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, Maryland. Robert was born in Oxon Hill, MD on February 23, 1919 to the late Daniel Edward and the late Tela Dorsey.
He was educated in the schools of Prince Georges County, Maryland. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in October, 1942 and was honorably discharged in December 1945. He later became employed by the General Services Administration where he worked until his retirement after 27 years of service.
In 1941, Robert met and married, Mary, the love of his life. They were married 62 years until separated by Mary’s death in 2003. Out of their union six children were born.
Robert enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, such as fishing and working in his garden. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and sending his grandchildren to school. He was a man you could count on, often lending a helping hand to others and he was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. Robert will always be remembered as a loving husband and devoted father.
Left to cherish many fond memories are his children, Robert, Jr., Steven and James Dorsey, Mary Dent, Betty Campbell, and Christine Dorsey, sixteen grandchildren, daughters-in-law, Dorothy and Patty, sister, Audrienne Thompson, brothers, Calvin and James Leroy Dorsey, sisters-in-law, Ora and Mary Dorsey and a host of other relatives and friends.
His viewing will be held on Thursday, March 6th, 11:00a.m. until service time 12:00 noon at the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 6634 St. Barnabas Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20744.
Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., Indian Head, MD.
