Robert Downs

Robert and I had a conversation of adapting white mama into a stage play seven years ago after I read his novel. He was so excited for that idea. The last thing he said that he would love to see it if I ever put it in production.I tried so hard to put many attempts to make it happen but it never did happen. As a friend and former colleague of Bob Downs at Penn State, I was sorry to see that he had died. I have many fond memories of him and Barbara from the time I first came to State College for an interview in late 1984 until they moved to Myrtle Beach many years later. He was a fine writer and excellent friend. Nancy and I send condolences to all his family and special greetings to Barbara.
