Robert E. "Bob" Curry, 64 years old, residing for 39 years at the same residence in South Charleston passed from death unto life eternal on Friday, October 21, 2011. On Monday, he was taken to Thomas Memorial Hospital where his attending Physicians, the nurses and staff did everything possible in their power to address his physical needs. On Friday he was transferred and settled in to Hubbard Hospice Care at Thomas Memorial where after seven minutes, God called him home in peace. He was born on March 28, 1947 at Chesapeake, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents William Curry and Brittie lavender of Chesapeake. He graduated from East Bank High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Language Arts, and Arts from Morris Harvey College. He received his master's degree +15 hours in secondary school administration from West Virginia University. He continued to renew his certification from "COGS" College of Graduate Studies. He was a retired employee of the Kanawha County Board of Education with 30 years of dedicated service. He began his career as an art teacher for five years at East Bank High School. He was known by his students as a fair, jovial, caring teacher who not only taught his students the subject matter, but cared for each of his students as a whole person instilling in them morals, values, ethics, self- esteem and self-worth. He then took a position as community education coordinator for the Kanawha Valley for 20 years. He coordinated and ran all of the after school day care programs enabling parents to work knowing their children were in a safe, happy and learning environment. He coordinated adult education classes providing employment for teachers and learning opportunities for adults and children. He was also principal of summer school and obtained grants for the restoration projects of historic buildings in the Kanawha Valley. His health declined in 1995 at which point, it was necessary for him to step down from the long hours as coordinator and return to teaching which he loved. By December of 1998, he was totally disabled with multiple diseases and conditions which necessitated his retirement. During the last 13 years, Robert fought the good fight of faith battling one illness after another, wheelchair bound for any distance. He has been homebound since May 2009 with total inability to ambulate, but without complaint and with a positive attitude and love. He is survived by his loving wife Sue of 33 years, Two devoted and dedicated daughters, Angela Phares and her husband Leslie Phares of Scott Depot, Georgiana Ciavarello of South Charleston, three grandchildren who loved and respected their pawpaw, Christina Ciavarello, Bryan Causey, Hunter Phares, a two year old great grandson, Layne Glover who brought joy and a smile to his face.
