Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Robert G. “Bob� Ott, 84, a resident of Davenport will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. The family invites you to join them for a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. to conclude the visitation. Bob passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center – West Central Park, Davenport. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. Robert George Ott was born July 30, 1926 in Traer, Iowa a son of Harnold H. and Elizabeth C. (Till) Ott. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army Infantry European Theatre during WWII. He was united in marriage to Mary C. Hood on August 28, 1948 in Davenport. Bob retired from St. Luke’s Hospital (Genesis Medical Center – East Rusholme Street) following 30 years of service as the Business Manager. Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Scott County Genealogical Society, Veteran of Foreign Wars, 94th Infantry Division Association, Combat Infantry Association, Elks, and an associate of the Humility of Mary. Bob was a tireless volunteer throughout his life. He had a very special place in his heart for the Handicapped Development Center, where he had served on the HDC Board and as President of the HDC Booster Organization. He was often referred to as the “Nut Man,� because of his dedication to the annual HDC Nut Sale. Bob enjoyed staying active by playing golf, walking, and bike riding. He had special interest in genealogy. Bob and Mary enjoyed traveling and had shared many trips, they especially enjoyed time spent in southern Kentucky with family at the lake. He cherished the time spent with his family, and loved to be with the grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Handicapped Development Center. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary, sons and a daughter-in-law, Tom and Jill Ott, Nokomis, Florida, Dave Ott, Davenport, Steve Ott (and Laurie Denison), Bettendorf; and a daughter, Jane Ott, Davenport; grandchildren, Carrie (Jerry) Devine, Davenport, Ryan Ott, New Haven, CT, Buffy (Tim) O’Neill, Davenport, Jami Ott Sergeant, Louisville, Kentucky, Jodi Ott, Bettendorf, Kara Ott, Chicago, and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harold Ott, and a sister Betty Jane Ott. May they rest in peace.
