Dr. Gerster was my theory teacher; I saw him every morning at nine o'clock for two years in college, and loved every single day. For years I've told my students about him--his hilarious ear-training tests, his gestures at the piano, so many funny and fun memories of this person who opened the door to my understanding of theory and form. Condolences in this sad time. Dr. Gerster was my professor for Ethnomusicology and a constant source of amusement and interesting information. The world is a lesser place because of his passing. We will hold your family in our prayers.
