Not sure what to say?

I knew Bob for a few years and just today learned of his death. I am so very sorry for all his friends and family on the one hand, and on the other, thrilled he is with the Lord for eternity, which is a pretty good consolation. We swam together at the Caldwell Community Center, and after exchanging smiles and nods for some time, I one day approached and asked him flat out what I was sure of anyway. "I know this is an odd question, but are you a priest?" I asked. Anyone with eyes like that...

Something inspired me to put Father Robert G. Gibney in google last night.
That is when I found out of his passing.
I was career military four years in the U.S. Navy and twenty-two years in the U.S. Coast Guard. While in the Navy I was stationed aboard the Aircraft Carrier Ranger. Fr. Gibney was our chaplain. He was an inspirtation to me and many other sailors with his beautiful Sunday homilies. Walking down the long hallways of the carrier...

I knew Fr. Bob Gibney for about 32 years. I am 45. Shortly around the time we became good friends while he was stationed at St. Catherine's of Siena in Cedar Grove, NJ, Thurman Munson had died in a terrible plane crash. I remember what Fr. Bob said. Of all the signs at Yankee stadium during his memorial, one sign stood out the most. That sign read, quite simply, "Thanks 15". 15 was Munson's number.

I loved Father Bob not only for who he was but also how he made the...

The Mass for Father Bob was a wonderful sendoff. Along with several hundred family and friend members, there must have been over 50 dedicated priests and 3 devoted bishops in attendance A beautiful tribute.

Gee whiz,

My 1st. year as an altar boy at Sacred Heart Vailsburg and father Gibney left to become a naval chaplin. Barely knew the man well. But, I'll say all the altar boys were deeply saddened to see him leave. He was a very pious gentleman, and very kind to children. May he RIP, and be forever in the kingdom of God. He certainly earned a place there.

God Bless Fr. Bob.. Magnificent job cuz.. A lifetime of love and devotion to God and to man.. We are all blessed to have know such a dear man.. Heaven is rejoicing and God is saying "Hello Friend".

Peace and love, Mickey Ryan Rhode

I remember Father Gibney, as I called him, as a child at Saint Mary's Church in Dumont, NJ. He was my favorite priest. I made my Reconciliation and Communion with him. I'll never forget the image he created, during one of his homilies, of how he imagined Heaven to be. He told us to imagine the most beautiful beach you've ever seen..he said he imagined Heaven to be even more beautiful than that. He left a lasting impression on me after all these years. I'm certain he's enjoying those...

I'll always remember Fr. Bob's green wool sweater at the hoagie parties and distinct speaking voice. He also taught me how to unload the food my Mom was forcing me to eat on my Thanksgiving plate to his sister's plate when no one was looking. - Julie Gannon

I attended Father Bob's Saturday afternoon Mass at Overlook Hospital. He always gave the best homilies. Being in his presence, celebrating the Mass always made you realize the overwhelming love God has for each of us. Father Bob was a living example of God's message. He will always be remembered for the spiritual impact he made on my life. No doubt he rests in peace in God's embrace.
