Robert J. Goodsell

Robert J. “Rob” Goodsell, 61, a resident of West Springfield for the past 37 years, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 in Baystate Medical Center with his family by his side. Born in Springfield on October 23, 1957, Rob was the son of the late Robert and Dorothy (Masko) Goodsell. He attended local schools, graduating from Springfield Technical High School in 1975. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Planning & Urban Design from UMASS – Stockbridge School of Agriculture. He was the owner/operator of Floral Elegance, Inc. in Springfield for over 12 years. Later he received his Nursing Degree from STCC. He was employed by Ludlow Hospital, Johnson Memorial Hospital and the State of Connecticut as a Registered Nurse. He retired in 2015 after 21 years of service with the State of Connecticut in the Correctional System. Rob leaves his wife of nearly 37 years, Jeanne (Stierle) Goodsell, two sons, Andrew R. Goodsell and his girlfriend Caroline Novelli of West Springfield and Douglas M. Goodsell and his wife Christina of Agawam, a daughter, Mary-Anne E. Goodsell and her boyfriend Steven Polom of Springfield and three grandchildren, Benjamin Goodsell, Cameron Goodsell and Milana Novelli, who all seemed to be able to keep grandpa busy. He always said, “I didn’t retire; I became a professional Papa”. He will also be missed by two brothers, twin Richard Goodsell and his wife Christine of Texarkana, TX and John Goodsell-Gray and his spouse Scott of East Longmeadow, a sister, Diane Danahey and her husband Brian of Longmeadow, his mother-in-law, Grace E. Stierle of Agawam and his sister-in-law, Helen James and her husband John of Chicopee, several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. Rob was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Stierle and her husband Robert T. Stierle and his father-in-law, Robert N. Stierle. The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses & staff from Baystate’s Heart and Vascular Critical Care Unit for the kindness and courtesy shown to Rob while in their care. A Funeral Home Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 in the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Chicopee.
