ROBERT L. GROFF age 79 of Sturgis, Michigan died Wednesday evening April 30, 2008 at the Veterans Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born May 24, 1928 in St. Joseph County, Michigan a son to the late Paul & Eva (Swihart) Groff.
Bob was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph County. On March 10,
1955 he married Daisy Dauber in Angola, Indiana. She died March 29, 1999.
Following 30 years of employment with the Paramount Furniture Company in Sturgis he retired as foreman of the Mill Room. He also had been employed by Formed Tubes in Sturgis.
Bob was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict earning the rank of Sergeant. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, camping and traveling.
He is survived by 1 Son; Robert K. (Ina) Groff of Sturgis, 3 Daughters; Linda (Gary) Wagner of Menominee, Wisconsin, Deborah Byer of Granger, Indiana and Heather (Terry) Smith of Wilson, Wisconsin, 15 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, 1 son; Kevin Groff, 1 brother; Paul Groff and 2 sister; Vivian Wahl and Ilene Kime preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday at the
Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of Robert L. Groff will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Carol Dauber will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard will confer full military rites.
Memorial donations would be appreciated to the family c/o: Robert Groff, P.O. Box 688, Sturgis, MI 49091. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
