Robert Grosvenor Obituary

Robert Spencer

"Spence" Grosvenor

July 1, 1947 - October 7, 2018

Raleigh

After a tough second bout with cancer, Robert Spencer Grosvenor, 71, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018. He was the eldest child of Mary Frances Grosvenor and the late Clifford Ray Grosvenor. Born in Long Beach, California, Spence lived in many cities throughout the country, but spent his formulative years in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After attending the University of Tulsa and the University of Oklahoma, he honorably served two tours of duty with the Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. Following his military service, he lived briefly in Texas, before moving to North Carolina and joining his family's retail lighting business, eventually establishing his own successful landscape lighting contracting company in 1990.

In addition to his mother, Spence is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Kathy Sneed Grosvenor; his son, Simon Grosvenor (Kelli); step-granddaughter, Kathryn Adams; and siblings, David Grosvenor (Heidi), Linda Savage (John), and Nancy Brightup (John); parents-in-law, Ronald and Shelba Sneed; sister-in-law, Leigh Sneed Berrier (Chris); and brother-in-law, Richard Cuadra (Sharon). Four nieces, three nephews, and their families will also lovingly remember their Uncle Spence. He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Tamara Cuadra.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, with services led by the Reverends Marc and Kim Wyatt.

Those wishing to make contributions in memory of Spence might consider the Women's Center of Wake County (www.wcwc.org), the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (www.foodshuttle.org), or Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Internationals (www.cbfinternationals.org), all of which Spence has long championed and supported.

Spence was a true gentleman and fantastic person, always considering others before himself.
The stories he shared with me along the way and simple life lessons, still resonate today.
I have referred back to the many examples he set and the knowledge he shared with me numerous times throughout my adult life. Many of these lessons have trickled down to my children and I am confident they will be passed along again and again. He introduced me to an industry and set me on a path to a career that I can say I truly enjoy. Spence demonstrated people skills, business savvy, creative design, engineering as well as mechanical applications that I still use every day. All these lessons made it possible for me to provide a very nice life for myself and my family over the past 27 years. I don't think it's possible for me to ever express the level of gratitude Spence deserves.
I can only hope that I too can impact someone's life in the positive way you have impacted mine!
Spence, thank you for all these things but above all, thank you for your honest and sincere friendship!
You will be missed Ole Buddy.

Spence was a true professional while working with my homeowners over the past two decades, but I'll miss him even more as a friend.

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
