Robert E. "Bud" Hanner, 78, of Holly Springs, Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at a Sioux City hospital. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Whiting Christian Church in Whiting, Iowa with Dr. Emery Killian and T.W. Norman officiating. Burial will follow in the Willow Township Cemetery at Holly Springs with Masonic services provided by the Attica Lodge No. 502 of Sloan. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 5, 2013 with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Robert "Bud" Hanner was born on October 1, 1934 in Holly Springs, the son of Harold E. and Mary M. (Weber) Hanner. Bud was a lifelong resident of Holly Springs. He attended Holly Springs Schools and graduated in 1953. Bud played baseball and basketball on the Holly Springs High School team and remained a lifelong sports fan, especially of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. In 1953, Bud went to Illinois and worked as a lineman. In 1954 he returned to Holly Springs and founded Hanner Trucking which he operated until 2000 and because of his love for trucking he continued driving until 2010. In 1991 Bud became a Mason and joined Attica Lodge No. 502 in Sloan. He married Bea Lilly on July 6, 1956 and they later divorced. To this marriage four children were born. On January 2, 1975 he married Mary Armstrong Bieler. To this marriage four children joined the family and a son was born. Bud enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and he never met a stranger. Fishing and hunting with his family were past times that he was always eager to participate in. Bud enjoyed camping and talking with other campers while watching the fire and cooking breakfast. Survivors include his wife, Mary of Holly Springs, IA; nine children, Duane (Sabrina) Hanner of Sioux City, IA, Lyle (Cindy) Hanner of Quimby, IA, Richard (Peggy) Hanner of Sloan, IA, Bobbi (Chris) Presnall of LeMars, IA, Bernie (Lynn) Bieler of Bronson, IA, Bert (Hope) Bieler of Moville, IA, Bryan (Heidi) Bieler of Castana, IA, Tammy (Todd) Tollufsen of Battle Creek, IA, and Robert J. "Buddy" (Cassi) Hanner of Pisgah, IA; 32 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Verda Mae (Clifford) Peterson and Leona (Bob) Sanders; and a grandson.
