Not sure what to say?

General Herres was a noble man and patriot. He also served as Chairman of the NASA Astronaut Memorial Foundation recognition event for his deceased colleague, Major Robert Lawrence at Kennedy Space Center in 1997. I had the privilege of working with General Herres in facilitating the Major Lawrence event. We both represented NASA and Astronaut Memorial Foundation to honor Major Lawrence who perished in a USAF test flight in 1967 for the Manned Orbiting Laboratory program a secret military...

GOD speed General. My condolences and love to his family; he was a great leader.I had the pleasure of working with him in SAFSL-7 office during the MOL program in the 60s when he was a young Major and Lt Col just after his SE Asia duties. He was a super person!

Shirley: I have tried, unsuccessfully, to find your home address, so this seems to be the best way to contact you.

Please know how sad Mike and I were to learn of General Herres passing. I have many times recalled the years when Mike and I came to San Antonio, and the two of you so graciously had us to your home, and you and I shared time together.

Please know our prayers are with you and your family at this time.

My condolences to the Herres Family. As a former employee of USAA FSB, I had the honor and pleasure to meet Gen. Herres during one of the Town Hall Meetings. He was very nice and a great leader while at USAA. He will be missed. God Bless you all.

While I only worked for General Herres and his wife Shirley for 2 years in the 1980's I learned enough for a life time. As his personal guard and driver at NORAD/USSPACECOM I spent many hours with this great man. I can say without a doubt he is the greatest military officer I've ever met. My prayers are with Shirley, his children and his grandchildren.

I had the honor of meeting Gen. Herres on one of his trips to our Norfolk office. I had submitted a change to our eligibility that I thought was appropriate. He had responded in a handwritten note to me and made it a point to stop by my desk to personally thank me. I was impressed that he would take the time out of his busy day for me.
Everyone here at USAA employees and members are better people because of his leadership.

There are too few people in our World with the strength of character and the leadership ability of General Herres. Both in his uniform and in his civilian role he was an example of what all should strive to be. He will be sorely missed by us all.

Gen. Herres was a great man, he will surley be missed by many. My deepest sympathy to his family.

My prayers and condolences to the family of General Herres. He was a great leader in the Air Force and at USAA. He will be sorely missed.
