Robert A. Holzhauer

He was my introductory social work professor at UWM around 1970. Loved his presentations and the class!! His teaching assistant was Father Joseph Feldhausen. I later got to know Bob better in our mutual interest in the interracial men's group, Black and White Men Together.
It was a privilege to know him and be his student!

Bob was our first lay socialworkers at St. Charles. He set high standars for the home along with being a close friend and supporter. May God Bless him for all his good work. Bro. Joseph Berg, CSC

By far one on my more interesting UWM Graduate mentors in the early 80's. Always willing to take on the orthodoxy, and never to compromise his principles, I'll remember his classes always. He continues to have an impact on many of us. Jim Truchan

Meg, although I never met your father from what I have read it sounds like he was the epitome of a refined gentleman and always treated everyone with utmost respect. "Numb your brain" were the words he used to describe abuse & addiction. He was a true individualist as I remember him clearly to this day, and haven't been in his class for over 30 years. Our thoughts are with your family today for Chloe and Alex's wonderful friendship with Cate and John, while my thoughts go back even farther to our childhood with Anne, Kurt, Peter, and their wonderful parents who welcomed us into their home. Trips to the East Side were so exciting! as was listening to our parents talk of their times together that went back even farther, when Jean and my mom were college roommates.

But what I remember most is their talk of ideas, in your kitchen...

Robert Holzhauer was a fascinating person--brilliant, with broad interests and a sharp, irreverant sense of humor. I also know that he was held in great esteem as a teacher and faculty member at U.W.-Milwaukee, as in his clinical work. A rare person, whose company one always felt lucky to share.
