Robert Lee "Buz" Howard Jr.

Buz was fun to be around. Most of my time with Buz was spent either on the Deschutes or on the way there (Clear Creek Campground) over a period of 20+ years. He always had a good story or two and was generous with his cigars and beverage of choice. It’s been an honor to call him my friend.

Buzz was the greatest fun to talk with, and most of the talk we shared was about fly fishing. We also camped and fished together in remote areas of Oregon as well as the Deschutes River, and Buzz acted as an expert guide when it was obvious I needed help. He was also a fellow Saturday Market artist and I always tried to stop and talk with Buzz and Sharon on the way to my booth. It always picked up my mood.

Many a Wednesday night when I came home from class I would stop and have a long talk with Buz, as he sat on the tailgate of the old SUV in the parking lot, feeding the parking lot cats. Eventually, I spent enough time with him and the cats that they would come to me when I called. (I guess they associated me with Buz and food). I miss those nights. Sharon, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Buz was such a wonderful individual. He was always generous, happy and he had the best smile ever. IT just drew you in. There should be more Buzies in this hectic world. He will be forever fondly remembered. God bless you Sharon and the entire Howard clan for your great loss.
