Robert William "Bob" Humphreys, 87, of Bangor, PA passed away Wednesday, February 22nd, at his residence.
Bob was born in Bangor, PA on March 8, 1935, a son of the late Ernest Humphreys, Sr., and Dorothy (Compton) Humphreys.
He was the husband of Yvonne (Yahraes) Humphreys. They would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this coming April. Bob was a 1953 graduate of Bangor High School and was inducted into the Bangor High School Hall of Fame 1885 club. He was employed as a supervisor at the Northampton County Prison in Easton, PA for 30 years until retiring. Bob served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Marine Corps. during the Korean War.
Bob was a member of the Bangor Welsh Society, Wind Gap American Legion Post 724, AARP, and the Young at Heart Club. He was a former member of the Antique Car Club of the Lehigh Valley, and the Bangor Elks. Bob had a love for music and was only in 5th grade when he became the youngest member ever of the Bangor High School Marching Band. He also was 12 years old when he played for the East Bangor Coronet Band. He was a member of the US Marine Corps Band and the former Marine Corps Musicians Assoc., the East Bangor Coronet Band, the George Humphreys Band, the Drum Major of the Wind Gap Blue Eagles Drum & Bugle Corp, the Bernie Parsons Orchestra, the director of the Blue Valley Youth Band where they played at the World's Fair in NY in 1965, the Walter Lane Band, the Willis Brown Band, the Bill Fisher Combo, the Northeast Variety Band, and the Slate Belt Community Band. He also taught music lessons for 41 years.
Bob was a member of Flicksville United Church of Christ in Bangor, PA. Prior to that, he was a member of the former St. John's UCC in Bangor, PA.
In addition to his loving wife Yvonne, Bob is survived by a son, Dean Humphreys, husband of Lisa, a daughter, Heather Lakey, wife of Todd, and two grandchildren Peter Humphreys and Sydney Lakey. He was predeceased by two brothers George Humphreys and Ernest Humphreys, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, February 28th at Gaffney Parsons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Lillian Lane, "Village of Johnsonville", Bangor, PA with Rev. Ken Hess officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10 to 11 AM on Tuesday, February 28th at the funeral home. Burial will be held at East Bangor Cemetery, East Bangor, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bangor Public Library, 39 S. Main Street, Bangor, PA 18013.

Dear Yvonne and family, sincerest sympathy in the loss of Bob.I have fond memories of hearing music floating out of your garage as Bob played his instrument while I walked my dog up your street. It was an uplifting moment that brought a smile to my face. RIP Bob, keep playing.
