This is the saddest news. I worked with Robert while at the Democrat between 1979 and 2011 and can still hear his voice. He was one of the kindest, most unselfish and diligent colleagues I ever had in my years at the paper. I’m so very sorry for your heartbreaking loss.

Robert was a great love of mine, when I was 23 and again almost 30 years later I had the honor to be one his wife. He was my best friend, confidant and a great stepdad to my daughters. I think we both saved each other and he made all three of our lives betterfly high my sweet and gentle man. I will always love you.
