When I first came to Oxford, Rob and Carol were by far the most welcoming and friendly faces I found. Rob and I shared a deep love of opera was well as of Sophocles, Homer, and all of Greek classical literature. As Chair I read the extraordinarily enthusiastic students evaluations of his teaching, described as both "passionate" and "witty." The loss of his friendship is irreparable.
