Not sure what to say?

He was so much more than can be described in words. He was a great friend of peace, justice, social equity, the environment, and we were proud to be in his circle of friends! We miss him and Ellie greatly! Starr and Michael (Gilly) from Trenton

Both Bob and Ellie were our neighbors, our friends and inspiring leaders in our community. They were some of the first people in our community to welcome us after we moved here. Thornton Wilder once said, The greatest tribute to the dead is not grief but gratitude. And we are eternally grateful that Bob and Ellie both welcomed us with open arms into their circle of family and friends.

Bob had an enormous influence on my career. Just recently I assigned his pioneering speech on climate and society at the World Climate Conference to my graduate seminar. I am so glad that I sent a note to Bob telling him that the students could not believe how prescient his words were and how much we enjoyed the discussion. Bob also had a great sense of fun and play. Here is a photo from the AAG awards lunch a few years ago. He will be greatly missed. Diana Liverman, University of Arizona
