ROBERT EDWIN KELLER, SR.

Age 87, a resident of Ocala, FL and formerly of Hobart, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010. He was born on February 8, 1923 in Gary, the son of William and Rose Keller. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army in the 326th Glider Infantry of the 3rd Batallion of the 13th Airborne. He was married to Dorothy A. Bood on February 14, 1965 in Hobart. Bob retired as the Assistant Branch Manager of Gary National Bank in Hobart. He was a member of the Michigan Avenue Methodist Church in Hobart and when he moved to Florida joined the Ocala West United Methodist Church, where he served as head usher and sat on numerous committees. He was a charter and lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 5365 in Hobart, a member of the Lions Club, and served as Hobart City Councilman from 1957 until 1977. He was an avid stamp collector, he enjoyed sports, and had worked as a greeter at Rees Funeral Home for many years. Robert is survived by his loving family, wife, Dorothy A. Keller, Ocala, FL; son, Robert Edwin Keller, Jr., Portage; daughter, Rae Ann Keller, Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Dannielle Keller and Christopher Keller; brother, Kenneth A. Keller, Bourbon, IN; sister-in-law, Mildred Keller, Tucson, AZ; and other loving family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Walter Keller; and his sister, Helen Keller. A Visitation for Robert Keller, Sr. will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with a 7:00 p.m. V.F.W. Service. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Rees Funeral Home. Burial will be at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Memorials in Robert's memory may be made to the Marion County Hospice Sylvia's House in Ocala, Florida. Dear Rae Ann and Family,

Sorry to hear of the loss of your father and husband. Know that I am upholding you in my thoughts and prayers.

This wonderful man was very active with the Methodist Youth Fellowship at the Hobart Methodist Church for many years. I have fond memories of him hauling a bunch of us to various MYF meetings in the Hobart area in his '57 Mercury.
