Charles, Robert (Bob) Kellum
A former resident of Highland Park, Mr. Kellum passed away peacefully, at home, on March 2, 2010 in Richlands, NC. Bob was a US Army veteran, and University of Kentucky Alumni. He began his career as a Kentucky School Systems educator. In 1969, upon relocation to IL, he served Lake Forest and Evanston School Districts. In 1980, he became a broker for Coldwell Banker Realty, Deerfield. He and his wife Rose retired to Richlands in 1999 where he worked as a field representative for Research Triangle Institute until 2009. He was a member of Richlands Methodist Church serving on RCOM Board of Directors. Previously he taught Sunday School, provided Youth Group Mentorship, and supported many outreach efforts. Community volunteer roles included: Sherwood School Pack Leader Boy Scouts, Red Oak Jr. High Basketball Coach, Optimist Club Member, Hurricane Katrina Relief, flood and disaster relief. His passion for giving resonated most in countless volunteer hours as a "Santa Claus" for many organizations: Bryn Marr Nursing Home, USMC Widow Wives Luncheon, Onslow Memorial Hospital, Richlands Elementary School, USO, Camp Lejune Naval Hospital, Christmas Cheer, Care Bridge and Onslow Senior Centers. Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Rose Kellum, Richlands NC and their family: Robert and June Kellum Jacksonville, NC; Amy and Richard Vargo Waukegan; Ronald and Debra Kellum Spring Grove; grandchildren: Crosby, Ikaika Fetui, Billy, Ericca Depinto, Joey, Taylor, John R, John W, Johnathon Vargo, Claire, and great-grandson William Robert Kellum. Per his request a memorial service is arranged at Richlands Methodist Church, NC on Saturday, March 27, 2010.
