Robert King Obituary

Robert Paul King ("BK")
Robert Paul King "BK", a 50 year Marin County resident, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at Marin General Hospital after a two year battle with cancer. He was born March 12, 1931 in Scranton PA. He was the son of the late Michael Joseph and Margaret Connolly King. He graduated in 1949 from Technical High School and at the age of 16, he enlisted in the Army National Guard with an altered birth certificate. At the age of 20, he enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War and eventually was transferred to Hamilton AFB.
It was during that time on a night out in San Rafael that he met his wife of almost 50 years. Together they shared their love of animals and cars, especially the Model A's. He worked for Volkswagen as Parts Manager, and later set up and ran the Parts Dept. at his son's shop, S-Car-Go, in San Rafael. He was a member of the American Legion Post #540 of Novato for 18 years. He also belonged to the Old Adobe Antique Club, Petaluma; The Sonoma A's; and The Model A Club of America, since 1989. In 1993 Bob and his wife drove cross-country to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in their 1931 Model "A" Ford Coupe with the Sonoma A's.
He will be greatly missed by those fortunate enough to have known him and whose lives he touched. He was, in one word, "Dignity". Besides his wife "Josie", he is survived by two daughters, Julie of San Rafael and Jenie of Novato; and two sons, Robert, Jr. of San Rafael and Ronald and his wife Mary of Novato; his grandchildren, Sean, Ronni, Hydee, Henry, and Mary; and many nieces and nephews, whom he often told to "Close the damn door". He is also survived by two sisters, Lorraine Condon of Pennsylvania and Margaret O'Horo and two brothers, Don and Martin King all of Florida. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph King of Pennsylvania.
A private Service will be held on February 17, 2004. Afterwards, friends are invited to attend a gathering to celebrate his life at Ronald and Mary's home in Novato at 2:00 PM. Donations may be made to Marin Humane Society or Marin Cancer Society.

Dear Aunt Jo & family,

We are so very sorry for your loss. We’ll remember Uncle Bobby as larger than life with a big smile and a hearty, infectious laugh. Distance made our visits together infrequent -- but all the more precious. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Love, Barbara and Paul
