As the years have passed, I continue to think about Robert and what a exquisitely complex and compassionate person he was. He came into a field that was quite foreign to him, and applied his intellect and savvy about human nature in the context of history to shake up a stodgy old club. He challenged old ideas that had not worked and offered new perspectives.
