Engaging, inquisitive, and great to be around. We were graduate student classmates at KU in the early 1960s. All of us "bunked" in one large room, and Bob (and Burt Williams) were our leaders. Bob was great at "quizzing" the rest of us. As much as anybody, he got me ready for my prelims by persuading me not to drag out the first question I got with a complicated answer because I would be digging myself into the proverbial hole. Uncle Bob, always brought me joy, and made me laugh. He was always opinionated, loved his country, loved his family. He would not let you pay for anything when you were his guest. We laughed, and joked, from my childhood, through my adulthood. He was admiring my love for my dog Angus one day and said "If I come back I want to be your dog" of course he was a strong believer in our Lord Jesus Christ.
